Portsmouth City Council Trade, Investment and Education Mission: BANGLADESH

Portsmouth has always attracted major foreign direct investment from around the world. Portsmouth City Council has committed to greatly enhancing its overseas promotional activity in the light of BREXIT, working with UK Government and the Department of International Trade to generate new high technology jobs globally. Portsmouth City Council has many twinning links with cities world-wide and is gaining great economic and educational benefits. Working with the new Portsmouth Bangladeshi Business Association (PBBA) Portsmouth City Council is forming a twinning link with Sylhet in Bangladesh. Hence the Council now wants to undertake a Trade, Investment and Education mission to this fast growing country. The Council will be undertaking the mission with the University, PBBA, Portsmouth International Port and Portico and wants to invite as many local companies as possible to join us.
Pre-Mission Support and Briefing
There are two planned pre-mission briefings, the first one will take place on Wednesday 28th August 2019 3.00pm to 5.00pm. Venue: University of Portsmouth, Main Hall, 1st Floor Nuffield Centre, St Michael’s Road, Portsmouth, Hampshire, PO1 2ED. Refreshments will be provided. Special Guest Speakers: Mr S M Jakaria Huq - Commercial Counsellor, Bangladesh High Commission.
Mr Mark Hamson - International Trade Advisor, Department of International Trade, plus representatives from Portsmouth City Council, Interlink Business and University of Portsmouth. The briefings’ aim is to answer any unanswered questions which delegates and potential delegates may have. In addition, it gives networking opportunities with all the delegates within the Mission. The second briefing will be on
Wednesday 18th September 2019. This will be a closed briefing and only extended to delegates who have been signed up to the Mission. Invites will be sent accordingly. In attendance will be senior dignitaries’ and officials.
Trade Mission
The trade mission will depart the UK on Friday 15th November arriving in Dhaka in the early hours of Saturday 16th November. The delegation will be based in Dhaka but visits to Chittagong and Sylhet will
be included for those wanting to visit these cities. The British High Commission, Dhaka & Bangladesh High Commission, London, will be providing support in this Mission. Where possible group meetings will be arranged with a number of the Bangladeshi Ministries and Chambers of Commerce. A networking reception will be organised and a ‘Meet the Mission’ half day programme will also be
set. In addition delegates will be accompanied during the mission by ethnic entrepreneurs with an interest in joint venture projects. The delegation will depart Dhaka on Friday 22nd November arriving back in
the UK on Saturday 23rd November.
