Could you be a TeenTech Solent Ambassador?

The TeenTech Solent event will give 300 students in Year 8/9 from across Portsmouth and South East Hampshire the chance to meet a fascinating range of employers from the Science, Engineering and Technology industries.

One of the unique features of the TeenTech experience is the use of business “ambassadors” who accompany small groups of students and teachers throughout the day. They are business volunteers from any STEM company, willing to offer their time to support, inspire and chat to young people as they experience the day.

At TeenTech Solent every group of 10 students has their own industry Ambassador volunteer to guide them around the different activities, exhibitions and challenges.

It’s a key role, because for many teenagers, you will be the first person working in Science, Engineering or Technology they have ever met.

This is a great opportunity for you to use and develop your own skills by working with a small group of 10 students to boost their knowledge and understanding of the contemporary business world. Simply by chatting to them you will help dispel many of the stereotypical images they have. You’ll also be able to give them a rounded picture of what it really means to work in the industry.

Groups will differ – some will be more confident about asking questions but others may be more reticent and you can really help them get the most from activities and from the opportunity to meet the other engineers and scientists on exhibition stands and in the activity area.

Feedback from previous events has shown us that the day makes a deep impression – students are exposed to career paths they may never otherwise have realised existed. We also try to demonstrate that although many of the people they meet will have degrees, this is not the only entry level to a career in STEM and there are openings for students on apprentice schemes.
